About the Maker
‘My work centres on the potters wheel. Traditional eastern forms inspire me, but spontaneity as a means of personal expression is key to my work. The exuberant action of throwing is enhanced by a continued experimentation through process, form and colour. Mark making is intuitive, sometimes relating to form, or process of making, sometimes it’s part of a personal narrative.’
Adam Frew is an acclaimed potter based in Portsewart, Northern Ireland. His work spans from functional homeware to one-off vessels, all with a trademark subtle abstract flair. He regularly exhibits throughout the UK and Ireland. His work is held in public collections at Mungyeoung Ceramic Museum, South Korea, the Arts Council in Northern Ireland, The Law Society of Northern Ireland and the University of Ulster, Belfast.

Kirsty Adam’s work is both functional and holds aesthetic meaning, retaining the spontaneity and delicacy intrinsic to making on the potters’ wheel. A Japanese comb tool is used to create and enhance the throwing lines. Her Icelandic collection is the culmination of a research trip to Iceland to express the ‘otherworldliness’ of the landscape.
Kirsty is an award-winning ceramicist currently working from her studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. She originally trained at Brighton Art College and then on the potters’ wheel in Japan. She has developed a personal approach to throwing on the wheel using porcelain clay, to produce unique pieces for the home.
