Black stoneware with porcelain slip and glaze
H. 7 x w. 12 x d. 8.5 cm
Care instructions:
Although your items are dishwasher safe, handwashing is recommended to keep them looking as new. Your item can be used for short periods in a microwave oven. Dark items heat up faster in a microwave so please take care when reheating the black stoneware.
Stains can usually be removed using bicarbonate of soda. Dampen your finger or a small cloth, dip in bicarbonate and rub the stain.
About Carla Sealey
Inspired by the natural colours and textures of the earth, Naked Clay Ceramics by Carla Sealey is a collection of quiet, tactile, minimal style tableware and homeware in black stoneware and white porcelain. Using a combination of handbuilding and slip casting, everything is made by hand in her studio in Bedfordshire.
'At high temperatures the clay dances in the kiln. When they leave the kiln these pieces don’t conform to the symmetrical perfection and uniformity found in factory made items. Each is individual and unique.
The pieces are fired with no glaze on the outside so that the feel of the natural, fired clay can be appreciated. I hope that tactile connection brings an opportunity to pause, breathe and savour a small moment in the hustle and bustle of life.'
'From my hands to yours, I hope the natural feel of fired earth in your hands gives you a moment to pause and enjoy.'

Kirsty Adam’s work is both functional and holds aesthetic meaning, retaining the spontaneity and delicacy intrinsic to making on the potters’ wheel. A Japanese comb tool is used to create and enhance the throwing lines. Her Icelandic collection is the culmination of a research trip to Iceland to express the ‘otherworldliness’ of the landscape.
Kirsty is an award-winning ceramicist currently working from her studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. She originally trained at Brighton Art College and then on the potters’ wheel in Japan. She has developed a personal approach to throwing on the wheel using porcelain clay, to produce unique pieces for the home.
