Congratulations to Manchester School of Art graduate Nadire Gokmen, our winner of the Thrown Contemporary Ceramics Award at New Designers 2020.
Nadire's collection 'Rust Print' immediately stood out to us with its quiet strength. Fascinated by both materials and surface, her process led practice is inspired by observations of our man-made, material environment. The creation of the collection was prompted to not just mimic the traces of our presence in nature but to physically capture them. The work uses a slip casting process that has been developed to allow the rusted surface of steel to be directly transferred on to clay. The resulting pieces are full of intrigue - exquisite surfaces that need to be explored.
We are looking forward to showcasing a collection of Nadire's work in a special online focus early next year - more details to come closer to the time. A definite one to watch out for.
